I started out writing fantasy. But I like to write anything, honestly. These days, I mainly stick to YA and there's always at least a sprinkling of romance, if not a 'whoops, I dropped the whole packet in'. Almost all my books are set in my home state of South Australia, either in real or fictional places - gotta write what you know - with 'Netherfield Prep' being the only current exception.

Like most writers, I love to read. Although, time for reading at the moment is hard to come by. When I'm not too busy writing or studying, I'm usually reading a number of authors. Some of my favourites are Rick Riordan, Jane Austen, Kate Forsyth, Cecilia Dart-Thornton, Kasie West, John Flanagan, Isobelle Carmody, Christina Benjamin, Emily Rodda, and many more.

I'm an avid fan of Marvel, DC, Doctor Who, Supernatural, Red Dwarf, IT Crowd, and pretty much anything similar. I've recently discovered 'Taskmaster' and it's brilliant. I love watching soccer (go Gunners) and thoroughly look forward to seeing Eurovision every year. Celebrity crushes include Anna Kendrick and Chris Evans, because they are wonderful.

I live in Adelaide (South Australia) with my husband, smol human, and a menagerie of animals – a cat reliving her (sixth) youth, a cowardly Beagle-Cavalier who thinks he’s smaller than he is, two chickens who are terrified of free-ranging, and a turtle with a penchant for sticking her head up her filter pipe.

I have a Master of Arts (Writing) from Swinburne University of Technology and a Master of Arts (Editing and Publishing) from University of Southern Queensland. I'm currently plugging away towards my PhD in Creative Writing, working on a feminist reimagining of the Irish hero Cu Chulainn.

 Evelyn Astra is a pseudonym. Evelyn is an author second, and a postgraduate university student first. She lives in Australia, loves her family’s dog (and her partner), and her favourite colour is red. You can often catch her reading steamy romance novels in between doing flashcards. 

Gemma Black is a dedicated teacher by day, but when the sun sets, the handcuffs come out and she becomes a paranormal romance author.  Hailey Jade is an Australian who has the audacity to think she might be able to hack it as a writer. She writes romantic fantasy that tends towards middle/dark portrayals of love, so you'll see tropes like enemies-to-lovers, hate to love, forbidden love, and essentially variations of I-want-you-but-I-don't-want-to in her books. She likes her female leads strong and her male leads a little bit wicked. 

 Harley Parker, is an Australian author from South West Sydney with her husband and two children. She writes both Contemporary, Dark, Mafia and Paranormal romance. She found her love for books at a young age reading books written by Meg Cabot and J.K Rowling and losing herself in the worlds other amazing authors have created.

Hayley Price has always been a storyteller. Throughout her life, she has told her story through songs as the principal songwriter in several bands, most recently Adventures With Alice, whose songs feature in many of her books.

A New Zealander, Hayley currently lives in Canberra, Australia with her long-time partner and a grumpy, bossy cat called Rosie. She loves baseball and suffers eternal torture as a fan of the San Francisco Giants. Their work draws on high and epic fantasy tropes, mixed with a dollop of queer romance, humour and wit, flawed but fabulous feminist heroes and diverse-in-all-the-ways characters, liberally sprinkled with philosophical concepts brought to life. Jessica A. McMinn is a grimdark fantasy author based in regional Australia with a passion for dark fantasy, dark coffee and cats (which, let’s face it, are all dark inside).

Since graduating from the University of Wollongong with Distinction in BCA (Creative Writing) and BA (Japanese), Jessica spent five years in Japan teaching English while refining her writing craft.

Meet Jo Speirs

Joanne Speirs grew up on a farm in a small rural community on the Eyre Peninsula of South Australia. Scouring the school library shelves for Sweet Valley High novels and sneaking a read of her mum's Mills & Boon books became a favourite pastime in her teens and fuelled her passion for reading and all things romance.

She lives in Adelaide with her two grown sons, husband and border collie named Zeb. When not writing, she works as an editor at Nurturing Words, specialising in editing manuscripts for other romance authors.

Her debut, Second Chance Love in Point Perry, was runner-up in the prestigious Romance Writers of Australia Valerie Parv Award in 2019 and was longlisted for the Romance Writers of Australia Emerald Award in 2020.

Lesley Jones was born and raised in Essex, England but moved to Australia in 2006 with her family. Her first book, Saviour, was published in 2013 and she quickly gained a reputation as a writer of gritty, down to earth characters, involved in angsty and emotional plot lines. Carnage, her third novel, made a number of lists, and won a number of awards for ‘Best Ugly Cry’. Her readers love the fact that she can switch her stories from hot and steamy, to snot bubble ugly crying, followed by laugh out loud moments, in the space of a few sentences. She has declared that the very best part of her job is meeting her readers and has travelled the world a number of times over the past few years to do exactly that. Lesley is a big fan of wearing pyjamas at any time of day, but not a fan of wearing a bra, unless absolutely necessary. 

When not writing, she has admitted to being a prolific reader, getting through around four or five books a week. She is a fan of trashy reality TV, listening to music, watching her son play football, spicy food and enjoys a glass of wine… or three.

Originally from the United States, Kaymie Wuerfel now lives in Sydney, Australia with her husband and two fur-babies.

 Layla has been writing stories ever since she could pick up a pencil and shape words. The most memorable works of her tween and teen years included a rap version of 'Little Red Riding Hood' and an embarrassingly spicy high school camp/murder mystery (which was possibly a sign of things to come).

Layla studied Communications at Newcastle University in NSW, Australia, and worked as a buyer and marketing coordinator in the education sector, before joining her husband in the family retail business. That's still her day job (she's very lucky her boss is pretty lenient, or she'd never get any writing done).

Layla lives on an acreage in regional NSW with her husband, two rambunctious children, four mostly feral cats, and an ancient German Shepherd who still thinks he's a puppy. Oh, and some angry Plovers that swoop her every spring without fail.

Leisl Leighton writes paranormal romance and romantic suspense novels. She is a tall red head with an overly large imagination. As a child, she identified strongly with Anne of Green Gables, and like Anne, is a voracious reader and born performer. It came as no surprise when she went on to a career as a performer, script writer, script doctor, stage manager and musical director for cabaret and theatre restaurants. 

After starting a family, Leisl stopped performing and began writing the stories plaguing her dreams. She is addicted to sci-fi and romance books and DVDs, she sometimes sings in a choir, loves to ski and horse ride, and was President of Romance Writers of Australia from 2014–2017. When she’s not writing, she helps other writers make their manuscripts shine. 

International Award-winning Australian author Lisa Stanbridge has been writing ever since she could string sentences together. As a child, it started off with princesses in castles being rescued by Prince Charming. As a teenager she moved on to angsty teens struggling through life with raging hormones. Now, as a semi-mature adult, she writes sweet contemporary romances and romantic comedies about real people going through real struggles who want their HEA.

She has been shortlisted in many contests, and even won some! Her biggest award is for her debut novel, Abandoned Hearts, which won ‘Best First Book’ in the Koru Award of Excellence, run by Romance Writers of New Zealand.

 I grew up in Sydney, Australia, in a very creative household. My mum writes beautiful poetry, my eldest brother writes children’s stories, my middle brother writes fantasy and my dad writes screenplays.

I have always read books. When I was a child, my mum would read me Pollyanna by Eleanor H. Porter, along with other classics. 

My mum has always been my greatest influence. She has always encouraged me to write and continue to better myself. 

I had always planned on becoming a primary school teacher; however, when I left high school and entered University, I quickly realised that wasn’t what I wanted to do. I went into child care instead. That was my real passion. I completed a traineeship, then bounced around a few centres before landing at my current workplace. I have been there for over five years now. The company I work for are incredibly supportive, and have celebrated my achievements.

I have always loved writing. Even as a young child, I would make up stories, write plays and invent new characters. My writing style has never been conventional, although when it comes to a classic romance story, it’s as conventional as it gets! 

I wrote Chapter One at a time in my life when I was feeling very vulnerable. I had just had a cancer scare; we were all going through a pandemic, and I lost a very young family member. 

I realised that life was too short to miss out on the things I always wanted to do. Creative writing was a way for me to cope and was a personal goal I had always wanted to achieve.

I lead a busy life, and writing is just a small part. I also do lots of volunteer work, which is incredibly rewarding. I have always loved to give back to the community, and have done so ever since I was a child. Another trait I share with my mum.

Zoe Jae was born in Sydney Australia, where her 9 to 5 is working as an office manager at an environmental consultancy. Working on projects and writing articles on the waste industry. 

Zoe grew up with a love of ancient mythology that has deeply inspired her writing.  

Zoe also has a keen passion for all things horror, leading to multiple horror movie inspired tattoos and naming her 2 family dogs Spooky and Mischief.
